Planning and Zoning Commission

The Rockdale City Charter (PDF) provides for a Planning and Zoning Commission consisting of seven citizens of the City who shall own real property within the city or who must be qualified voters and have resided within the city for six months preceding their appointment. A minimum of two-thirds of the members shall be citizens not directly or indirectly connected with real estate or land development. The members of the Planning and Zoning Commission are appointed by the City Council for a term of three years, with a minimum of two members being appointed each year.  The Commission meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 1:30 PM at City Hall.

The responsibilities of the Planning and Zoning Commission includes:

  • Making a recommendation to the City Council concerning requests for re-platting property;
  • Making a recommendation to the City Council concerning requests for re-zoning property;
  • Studying the current Comprehensive Master Plan and making recommendations to the City Council concerning needed changes to the Comprehensive Master Plan; and
  • Studying the current and future development of the community and making recommendations to the City Council on policies needed to guide future growth.
